My Journey with ADHD

“Why do I not do what I “should” or need to be doing?”
The answer to the above question, is a bit complicated for those of us with ADHD and other neurodiversity diagnoses.
My name is Robert and I am pursuing certifications to be a Neurodiversity and Productivity Coach. Credentials are not necessary to call yourself a Coach, but the training, frameworks and ethical standards are something I value for myself and my clients. Combined with my own lived experience and years working inside corporate environments the training is helping me build the foundation of my coaching practice.
Like many adults with ADHD, I was diagnosed later in life. I was not hyperactive as a child, but I certainly was a daydreamer.
Often in life, my “plan” was that if I kept my head down and kept “doing something”, eventually things would change and life would fall into place.
Goal setting, planning, and being able to envision a life that I wanted always came as a struggle.
The “a-ha’s” I have experienced since my diagnosis have been enlightening as well as frustrating. While there have been many answers, many questions remain for me personally.
Why didn’t I know about this sooner? How did nobody in my life notice this? Would my life be different if I did know about this earlier?
Once I was aware that ADHD was at the root of many of these challenges, I started learning as much as I could. Then one day it occurred to me…what if I could help other people build awareness about their ADHD? What would it feel like to help clients realize their own “a-ha’s”?
That is why I started Thought Partner Coaching, LLC. To help clients build awareness about the cause and effect of their ADHD (as well as other neurodiversity diagnoses) and how it shows up for them.
ADHD is different for all of us, and our experiences with how we understand and manage it varies widely.

Creating a life that fits is about creating change that stays with you and building new habits. It is also about understanding or deconstructing old habits that don’t work for you anymore.
